Genesis Thirty - Four

To be honest. I am not sure how to take this chapter.

On the one hand...
Jacob's sons acted deceitfully. Simeon and Levi routed the men of Shechemites and the son's took things that did not belong to them. This is wrong.

On the other hand...
Dinah was raped, and to add the insult onto the injury, he comes back and asks to be rewarded by marrying her. I can see their reaction to be justified. I am not an advocate for revenge, But I am an advocate for justice.

Revenge however, never seems to be as satisfying on the other side. We tend to find that the 'victory' is not as sweet.

But Shechem did something that by our standards deserves punishment. I know the preacher side of me should type that we should allow God to be our vindicator. That He will always come to our rescue. That revenge is not the answer in any situation. Like I said, to be honest with you, I am not sure how to take this chapter.

"Father, help me understand more deeply how to trust in You in all circumstances. Let me lean not on my own understanding but be rooted in the security of Your sovereignty."
