Genesis Twenty - Eight

"I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
-----Genesis 28:15

I serve a God of His word. When He makes a promise in scripture He has always come through. His Truth is one of the foundations of our faith. Read the words He tells Jacob here. I find great assurance that I am not alone in this journey. God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

How I think of Him as watching over me is important in how I view Him as God. If my belief is that He watches over me to dictate and discipline (like a stern teacher from grade school) then I will tend to try to hide more often from His presence. If I believe that He watches over me for my protection to lead me to the ultimate place of safety (like a loving parent) then I will tune my heart to His leading. I want to follow in the latter.

I also want to remember that when discipline does come that it is not because He is picking on me. God chooses discipline at times for course corrections. He wants us to grow.

"Dad, thank You for watching over me today. Help me see more of Your path."
