Matthew Fourteen

"The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests he ordered that her request be granted and had John beheaded in the prison."
----- Matthew 14:9-10

Two topics of thought:
1. Be aware when image management overrides authentic living. We are seeing a perfect example of teenage peer pressure. Herod did not want to lose face here in front of the girl he is wanting to impress. So he decides to do something that he did not want to do because of the uncertain outcome. Sometimes leaders have to lead and make decisions that don't make sense.

2. Our story is not as safe as the flannel boards of Sunday School will lead us to believe. When one does something significant for the Kingdom of God they are usually met with hostility and criticism. Sometimes to the point of death. That is why this is a Lordship and not a religion of convenience.

"Jesus, thank You for making such a difference in the life of John the Baptist that He would be willing to die for You. Help me live with His passion."
