"And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."

The reward here is an intimate relationship with Jesus, both present day and eternally. I find this reward worth searching after, as if it were the Holy Grail (in some respects it is). I live and breath because of this very reward. Jesus paid a debt that I could not, because of His love for His Father and for me. This precious treasure is to not be taken for granted, or manipulated. It is that priceless.
As we read about 'giving a cup of water to the little ones,' context does play a part. These people didn't have faucets in 3 or 4 rooms in their houses. Much less, plumbing to bring the water. They carried empty jars to a well (sometimes miles away) and brought back full jars of water. Though it was a cup of water it took some sacrifice.
I am reminded this morning that God sends me to people in need for a reason. He wants to reflect His love on them, through me. I long to stay attuned to His song because of His majesty.
"Father, thank You for sending us to play a significant part in Your story."
