Matthew Three

"In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.'"
-----Matthew 3:1-2

How true were his words on this day. He announces to everyone to repent for the kingdom of heaven is near and today he will baptize Jesus Christ. What a captivating scene.

I feel weird about calling John "the Baptist". He acted nothing like most Baptists. He looked almost nothing like most Baptists. He ate almost nothing like most Baptists. (I understand that Baptist was a descriptive term for what he did. He baptized people.)

What descriptive term could be used for you? Jim the slacker? Frank the schemer? Sue the closed minded? Harry the greedy?... Michelle the compassionate? Tyler the giver? (Your name here) the child of the living God?

The Kingdom of heaven was near that day, as it has been every day since. Anytime that Jesus is in the vicinity, we experience the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:20 (NLT)
For where two or three gather together because they are mine, I am there among them."

"Father, thank You that Your Kingdom is near."
