Matthew Nine

On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor,
but the sick."
-----Matthew 9:12

I love the calling of Matthew. Even more, I love the celebration at Matthew's house. Jesus was not afraid of people with dirt. It didn't seem to be His concern of them 'infecting' Him with their impurity, as a possible deal breaker.

I also love how crazy this is driving the church people. These hall monitors were having difficulty finding a logical reason for a Rabbi to be found off the 'church bus' slumming it with the lowly.

Get ready..... Jesus is about to speak.... this is amazing....
Jesus replies, that the need to help the sick, outweighs the need for the country club membership. (littleBAG version)

As I watch the scenes of Jesus unfold here,
I am challenged to remember two things:
1. other people exist
2. other people need Jesus

"When He (Jesus) saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were HARASSED and HELPLESS, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few; Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send our workers into His harvest field.'"
Matthew 9:36-38

"Father, help me remember that You made me to help work the harvest before I enjoy the feast."

Heart and Soul,
