Romans Five

"But where sin increased, grace increased all the more..."
-----Romans 5:20

In 2 Samuel chapter 12 we read of the prophet Nathan confronting King David about his relationship with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband. Nathan tells an account of a rich man stealing a sheep of a very poor man. David being the shepherd type is outraged and declares a guilty verdict condemning the man to death. And then the story takes a dramatic turn.

Nathan's next words changes everything...."David, you are that man." All of a sudden what David thought had been done in private has now been exposed (sin has a way of exposing us at the worst moments). Nathan's rebuke will mark the beginning of the most challenging season of David's life. But there is something in Nathan's words that I find amazing. His rant starts off with.... "this is what the Lord says....". In God's words, He has given David kingdoms, the wives of kings, wealth, prestige.

AND IF THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN MORE (v.8)

Here is where we gain some insight into the character of God. He is on our side. His desire is for us to prosper as we grow in relationship with Him. Even in the most important area possible, our soul's. Where our sinned increased (understanding one sin is enough for our condemnation) His graced abounded. He has 'given more' than we ever deserved and will be able to pay back.

What a beautiful God!

"Father, You captivate me with Your grace."
